Subject: Request for a link on the City's Website
Good Morning Ms. Williams;
I am very impressed with the vast amount of resources that the City links people to on it's internet website. Under the "Our Community" folder, there are several interesting and useful links, such as The Columbian, The Oregonian, The Daily Insider, The Vancouver Voice, and other informational websites.
Since www.clarkblog.org is dedicated to information about what is going on in Clark County and the City of America's Vancouver, I am requesting that an active hotlink to our website be included on your "Our Community" page as well. Since we do not advertise, accept advertising, donations, or revenue of any kind, www.clarkblog.org is free for the public to access and is worthy of listing on your home page.
Please forward this under your endorsement as required, to whomever is able to make this happen. They may contact me at the above e-mail address for any technical clarification issues that may arise. You may also contact our Administrator, Louis Wu at his e-mail address: looeewoo@mindless.com.
Thank you for a moment of your time, and your kind consideration.
Sincerely;
Bob Koski

This is not just a stunt. This is a serious request and I do expect a serious answer. Here's a link to the page I want a listing on.

Scroll down, it's on the right. I would expect an alphabetical listing...

Come on Chief, do you honestly think they are going to link you there? Heck we have seen just how these folks work and you have to go infront of the City Council to be recognized as a Neighborhood group so do you think you have a chance? Wishing you all the luck in the world, if you get in 'Hell must of froze over?'

As I indicated, this is a serious request.

Chief, if you are serious don't ya think a visit to the council will make a bigger impression, like on the TV so you get an answer?? Then it might get known as to what is really going on. ;)

Dear Mr. Koski,
Betsy Williams has forwarded your request to our office for response. Your interest in having the Clark Blog link appear on the City’s website is appreciated. Clark Blog is a dynamic and lively forum for a diverse community discussion on a variety of topics and offers a creative avenue for social networking on the web for Clark County residents…and beyond.
However, we must decline your request because Clark Blog does not meet the purposes of the City of Vancouver web site as outlined in the excerpt below:
“The City, at its sole discretion, will determine whether external content meets the purposes of the City of Vancouver Web site. Generally, external content does not meet the purposes of the City of Vancouver Web site if the content contains, suggests, or infers any of the following…..:
1. Advocacy of or opposition to any politically, environmentally, or socially controversial subjects, issues, or candidates.
2. Disparaging or promoting any person or class of persons. “
To read the complete “City of Vancouver Web Site Linking Policy”, go to http://www.cityofvancouver.us/notices.asp?id=11166.
Again, thank you for your interest.
Sincerely,
Donna Mason, Director

So under those guidelines, how on earth do the Columbian and the Oregonian qualify?
I need to ponder this one for a while and decide where this goes next...
I think this is discriminatory.
For starters, although I have never seen one (yet), I am willing to bet you that the "Vancouver Voice" has had at least one article in it calling for George W. Bush to be impeached.
Anyone have a copy of the Voice laying around?? We need to get one and scan it...

Chief, I cannot agree with you more. I think you should pursue this until the cows come home.

I agree! I need a copy or two of the Vancouver Voice to carry this one any further....

Let's just save some heart burn here and know that their bread is buttered on one side and if you don't agree with this than you will not be added. This is Clark County and say no more!

In my discussion about legal issues over the past few days, I did take the opportunity to point out that the City of Vancouver has declared me not a competitor to the Columbian by refusing to put a link on their website.

Chief, for 'God' sake you sure aren't a competitor of the Columbian as you tell the truth and they, well lets say don't know the truth?
Sorry Lou, a lie is a lie! They aren't going to link you there Chief, as they won't want the truth printed. Besides you have to stand before council to ask their permission to be a neighborhood under their control. Heck that isn't what a neighborhood is according to Congress!!

Updating this topic on April 12, 2007
Guess which link has disappeared from the City of America's Vancouver's official "Our Community" website??
Yep! I checked this morning, and the City has quietly removed their link to the far-left "Vancouver Voice".
Who says the City isn't an avid fan of www.clarkblog.org?? This demonstrates that if properly confronted, the City can be at least partially guided as they stagger toward the light...

Chief, you don't get it do you? ::) It's not over until there is a change of Leadership that will be on the side of the Pulbic!!

You're right, this is but one small battle in the ongoing war, and it always helps to highlight one's successes, doesn't it??
I think that my original request is part of what drove Lou off the deep end, and I will bet you a burger that when he heard about this one, a circuit fried ( or a blood vessel burst...) and his knee-jerk reaction was to fire off a hasty e-mail to the Shark in Seattle...
Bet me....

Chief, you crow to much, you may find your foot back in your mouth!! Some of have learned to exnore the victories and more onto the next battle which drives them nuts faster!! They never know where we might strike next so don't crow to loud!! ;D
