At 12:24 pm on Thursday January 10th, 2008 a tornado touched down near Vancouver Lake on top of the Vancouver Lake Erg house and rowing shells. The F1 tornado lifted the club's two buildings off of the ground and scattered them 300 yards away completely destroying the contents. All 18 training ergs were destroyed along with all the equipment and supplies. Out of the approximately 50 shells stored at the site only 3 survived the falling trees and blowing debris. Hundreds of thousands of dollars of equipment was destroyed.
Vancouver Lake Crew needs your support to continue the program. Donations of money, boats, supplies, etc are appreciated. An account has been set up at Bank of Clark County (http://www.bankofclarkcounty.com/) for VLC or donations can be sent to

According to the evening news, donations have already hit the $10,000 mark, but that is a drop in the bucket for what will be needed.
The other good news is that several other rowing clubs in the area have donated shells, so the club has seven boats to work with right now.
I'll update this as details come in.

I'll confirm that that is basically what I have heard atm..
But like you said Chief, when you lose $250K of boats, 2 portables along with trailers and trailer hitches in the trees, oars, nets, bouyies and health/sports equipment, rowing machines (no, not the cheap ones for building strength and other water paraphenalia, this is a huge loss for them.
I do love seeing the community come out and try to help as best they can. Its one of the reasons I have stayed here in Vancouver and decided against moving to Portland area.
