The suspect in a Saturday night fatal hit-and-run made his first appearance Monday in Clark County Superior Court.
Kyle K. Oden, 21, had turned himself in early Sunday morning, approximately eight hours after he allegedly struck a 66-year-old Vancouver woman as she was crossing Southeast McGillivray Boulevard.
Linda L. Cohen died at the scene.
Judge Robert Lewis set bail at $100,000 for Oden, who according to court documents is an unemployed painter with convictions in 2004 and 2005 for being a minor in possession of alcohol.
Vancouver police have said that alcohol appears to have been a factor in the fatality. An officer said Sunday that Oden blew through a stop sign at the intersection with Southeast 136th Avenue when he struck Cohen.
Oden will be arraigned Jan. 11 on one count of felony hit-and-run and one count of vehicular homicide, said Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Michael Vaughn.

My wife and I were just sitting here counting how many tragedies there are with this kid. It's a terrible shame that nobody took this kid by the nape of the neck and straightened him out, before he killed a pedestrian in a crosswalk.
Today's paper has a much more detailed story by Stephanie Rice, that details his previous criminal conduct. From the description of his car, loud exhaust pipes and all, I'm sure I've seen this kid up and down McGillvray more than once, and I don't recall ever seeing him stop at a stopsign either...
Running stopsigns, speeding, blowing through crosswalks, drund driving, wrong-way driving; we hear far too much about these crimes out in this area, and it's time we started looking a lot harder at penaties. I've talked to Rep. Jim Moeller about these issues in the past, and the overall feeling I get is that the Legislature does not want to spend money locking people up in prison. That excuse is getting lamer by the deaths on our streets.
