Ever wonder how local boondoggles come into being without a vote of the people? To what depths the tax and spend politicians will go to convince the taxpayers that these boondoggles will bring in tons of revenues or because there are no local taxpayers dollars being used there is no need for the people to vote on some issues? .

After reading Greg Herrington’s column “Light –rail line to Clark gains speed”, it is my opinion this is how the tax and spend crowd will bring ‘LIGHT RAIL THE GRAVY TRAIN’ to Clark County,

Using Portland's play book, our politician will first mount a program aimed at convincing the business's and neighborhood leaders that the unsightly light rail will not be coming through their areas of concern. How will they accomplish this? First, they will, as County Commissioner Stuart was quoted as saying, “not bite of more than you (presumably the taxpayers) can chew”. They will propose building just a tiny segment of light rail, something we can afford, into Clark County. Probably as Herrington said from downtown to Clarke College.

Once they have achieved their light rail toehold and following in Portland’s footsteps, they will satisfy their Portland Envy by incrementally adding the rest of their proposed system in small increments that the public will swallow. By doing it in bits and pieces they can hide the true cost.

This tactic will allow the tax and spend politicians, to tell the people, with a straight face, that since they can get all the dollars ( those that come out of our other pocket) they need (for this first section) from the FEDERAL TRANSIT ADMINISTRATION they can bring light rail into Clark County without using Local Tax Dollars. It only follows that since no Local Tax Dollars will be needed there will be no need for the people to vote on the light rail issue. That will ensure that the people will not have the opportunity to, once again, defeat the Light-Rail boondoggle.

However, once built the proponents of “Light Rail the Gravy Train” will then announce the need to levy a small sales tax increase or new business tax, AGAIN WITHOUT A VOTE OF THE PEOPLE, to pay for the Light Rail Operations and Maintenance Cost. . Why, because they will probably forget to tell us about the Operating and Maintenance cost or they will tell us they were unaware that the Federal Transit Administration funds did not cover Operation and Maintenance cost.

REMEMBER THE ONLY MONEY GOVERNMENT HAS IS WHAT THEY PICK FROM YOUR POCKETS.

And so it goes.

The only thing that qualifies as "so it goes" is Kommander Kneekap's penchant for boldfaced lies. He clearly cannot correctly interpret what information the columbian gives him via Gregg Herrington's column, nor does he demonstrate any understanding of what our election laws in Washington really are.

Here is a fact: If the City of Vancouver needed an operating levy for Maintenance and operations, they would have to put it before the voters. Period.

Here is another fact: If the City of Vancouver needed the Sales Tax increased, they would be required by law to put that proposal before the voters as well.

To assert anything else is clearly wrong, and in the case of Patella, he knows better. However, you can clearly see the Patella approach to the facts, that is, he considers only his narrow view and definitions of things, regardless of what the real facts are. It is exactly this stubborn insistence of listening to only his overly loud voice that has gotten him and his friends into trouble before, and cost them $60,000 back in 2001 when the City sued them, and won.

It continues to escape me how so many people up here in Cascade Park live an breathe by what this old fraud says, even though he doesn't stand for a damned thing, including the truth.

Mr. Patella, stop lying to Senior Citizens with your vicious "Local Mailing List". You have the right to state your opinion, but along with that right comes a responsibility to tell the truth.

"You have the right to state your opinion, but along with that right comes a responsibility to tell the truth."

I love this statement...

Do you disagree??

Do you see a problem holding Patella and others to that standard??

After reading several of my replies and deleting whole sections, I thought of opening this up and into a Word processing program so that I could get my thought down correctly.

I single out Patella from the rest of the franchise. Not going to belabor the point about stemper or oliver. They have to face the music for their terms and live up to constituent promises and political reality.

Patella is a certified loon. Pure, simple, bred and made. Don't you think that? May be he is an endemic of a class of older folks (in Vancouver) that will be moved out of their homes to make way for progress and other future city projects. He will have to pay the same costs as every other citizen does and has the privilege to keep espousing his viewpoint.

No, I don't agree with any of them and don't care if they keep spreading their lunacy unless they try and do some thing like the 2004-5 Charter Change.

Do you HONESTLY think or feel there is anybody left who will listen to him or give him money to continue on this lunacy?

Honestly, there is a time to move on from his old man lunacy and focus on Pat Campbell and Jerry oliver. I will be watching these two to keep them to their campaign promises. I honestly don;t think Pat is going to be left to his own devices when he is only 1 of 6 on that city Council who will vote the opposite way. Same situation with Jerry.

Chief, if you feel you must keep ranting on about Larry, please do. I think I'd rather focus my attention on the people that matter.

I realize how you come to that conclusion, considering that you do not have the background or nearly a decade of experience with Larry Patella. that said, don't be too quick to discount him.

Patella was the nearly official spokesman for the Oliver campaign, and according to the PDC records, a major contributor to his campaign. Patella was advising Charlie Stemper, Pat Campbell and Jerry Oliver behind the scenes, and beating the drum against Arch Miller to boot. Patella is still the most frequently published letter writer the columbian has. And there is an entire under-culture of people up on this end of town who cannot pee unless Patella tells them when and where to squat.

In a nutshell, that's why I have a separate room for Patella's serial lies, and so that I can lay my hands on his past quotes at ease. Someone has to rebut him, and right now that falls to me. Until someone else wants to start pointing out what a liar Larry Patella is, I will continue to do so.
