Thinking of igniting fireworks on New Year's Eve?
Be aware that welcoming the New Year with whistles, pops, flashes and bangs of fireworks is illegal in Vancouver and most of Clark County.
Just in case revelers inside Vancouver haven't gotten that message, enforcement teams of fire marshals and police officers will be out responding to complaints and patrolling city streets.
Jim Crawford, Vancouver fire marshal, said four enforcement teams will be available Monday night, with emphasis on the period right after midnight.
"There is a narrow window of activity," he said. "Everything happens at the same time."
The forecast calls for the weather to begin drying out Sunday, with a fairly small chance of rain Monday night. Still, the fire danger won't be anywhere close to July 4 levels.
"It's not the fire hazard," Crawford said. "It's the nuisance. It's against the law, and people can figure out another way to celebrate the New Year's safely."

Good! I support legal fireworks, used legally. New Years is not a legal time to use fireworks and I hope they catch one of the worst offenders here in my neighborhood this year.
