Opposition leader Benazir Bhutto has been critically injured after a suspected suicide attack at a political rally in Pakistan.
She is undergoing emergency surgery at a nearby hospital, Sky News sources say.

he explosion went off just after Ms Bhutto left the rally in Rawalpindi, minutes after her speech to thousands of people.

At least 15 people died in the attack in the heart of Pakistan's military and parliamentary district.

It is the first major attack in the lead up to the January election, since President General Pervez Musharraf lifted emergency rule two weeks ago.

This is not good...in fact this is one of the "worst case" scenarios that many people have been postulatiing about for months. If she dies, this could easily trigger widespread open rioting in Pakistan.

One of the very worst case scenarios possible in Pakistan is unfolding this morning.

Reports from Pakistan say that Bhutto may have been shot in the neck as she tried to escape the area of the bomb blast. That indicates to me that this was not a single bomber, but an organized assassination plot. Could be al Qaeda, and it could be Musharaff's supporters as well. The crowds I'm seeing on TV right now are already shouting "Musharaff Dog!" so some have apparently made up their minds who is to blame.

What makes this especially bad is the presence of Pakistan's nuclear weaponry; who does the US support in all of this?? The guy we know can best protect those warheads is the same guy the locals think just killed the opposition's leader...

This is incredibly dangerous...
