The reason why I am posting this article at Clarkblog.org is that Clark County has a G-P pulp and tissue mill here. Have been following this as to see how the company will be handling this transition of valuable waterfront property on the Pacific NW coast that faces Lummi, Vancouver and San Juan Island chains.

This could be an important story in the future for our community as the paper mill here has been laying off people and reducing production to match the market that now exists.

But one thing that both of these mills share is wonderful coast line and river property that could be redeveloped for a handsome profit.

Look at what Boise Cascade has done with Gramor, do you think G-P couldn't do the same thing with their paper mill? And going to bet that land thats quite close to Columbia River Gorge is wonderful situated that if could turn into some thing luxuious for the people that would take it over if G-P ever decided to close the former James River mill.

Here is the article I was reading from the CrossCut and Seattle Times.

I would point out that so far Gramor has done nothing but propose unaffordable and unrealistic proposals for the Boise Cascade site.

In addition, I would rather see industrial property remain industrial, like we are witnessing with Alcoa/Evergreen. It could well be that the GP site we're talking about is only suitable for industrial development too; a so called "brown field", where the land is cleaned to an "industrial standard".

Worth keeping an eye on...

The reason Chief I feel very strongly about discussing the issue is there three Prong approach with the City of Bellingham, Port of Bellingham and a couple major land owners in Downtown Bellingham that are taking creating a new downtown similar to what Vancouver is doing.

But I am not applying that knowledge to downtown Vancouver but looking east to a more valuable property sitting to the east in Camas. This discussion has happened before here and probably will be discussing it again since both properties in Bellingham and Camas are owned by Georgia-Pacific. I'll leave the gramor discussion for other threads, I was just citing it as an example briefly to include in this thread.

I was using the discussion for future reference in case it the future the Georgia Pacific Mill in Camas does close and what might be possible.
